Changing slicer parameters

Changing slicer parameters is available here.

This section is intended for changing any parameter of the slicer. This could be due to a change in appearance or an improvement in the characteristics of the model.

So, first things first…


  1. Launch Makerbot Print software.
  2. Select your 3D printer (or add an offline printer).
  3. Add the required STL model.
  4. Select the extruder used, filament type and print template (Balanced/Draft/Minfill/…).
  5. Specify the required options available.
  6. Save the project.

At this point, you should have a saved project file with a .print extension.


Upload the .print file to the site here. After the download is complete, 3 subsections will appear on the site for this file:

  • .print – previously loaded .print-file of the project.
  • .thing – intermediate project file, obtained and source project file. It is this file that will be used later for slicing the model into layers in the Miracle Grue slicer.
  • .jsonprofile – Parameters profile file. It is in this file that all the parameters are located that are used to cut the model into layers in the Miracle Grue slicer.

Find the required parameter and change its value as required. It is worth noting that at the stage of preparation in paragraph 5, it is desirable to indicate all the required parameters. Because changing a single setting in Makerbot Print can change multiple settings in the profile file. For example, when you enable/disable the Raft, in addition to changing the doRaft parameter, other parameters are also changed.

Displaying parameters:

  • A parameter printed in regular font means an active valid parameter.
  • If the parameter name is printed in strikethrough gray, the parameter is not used in the current settings. If it is needed when slicing into layers, the default value will be used or an exception will be thrown if this parameter is required.
  • If the parameter name is printed in red, it means that the profile file contains a parameter that is missing for some reason in the database. This happens when a new parameter appears in the new version of the slicer, but it is not yet in the database.

For each parameter, you can get help (if this parameter is in the database). In this case, a page with a description of the parameters will open and the required parameter (the blog with a description) will immediately open.

You can also enable/disable the parameter. If the parameter is not required, turn it off. If you need to add a new parameter, find the parameter in the disabled list and enable it.

Also, if the parameter supports calibration, then the corresponding button will be displayed. Calibration will be covered in the next blog post.


You are now ready to slice the model into layers. Click on the «Slice» button located at the bottom of the jsonprofile subsection. As a result, the 4th subsection will appear:

  • .makerbot – Model sliced into layers. Depending on the printer settings, the file will contain instructions in the form of json commands or gcode commands.

A preview of the model will also be displayed. If for some reason the preview is not available, the resulting .makebot file must be downloaded and uploaded to the official website There it can be viewed.

Sending to print.

You now have a .makerbot file that you can send to print in any way you can. If you need to change any parameter again, change the parameter, press the «Slice» button, download the resulting .makerbot file and send it to print.
